Low Tide Shoreline, Maury Island Event Report
Another great MudUp report- the low tide shoreline event at Pt. Robinson on Maury Island on Saturday, June 7.
Despite the cool and windy weather, 250 people came out for the low tide shoreline event at Pt. Robinson on Maury Island on Saturday, June 7.
The day was full of great low tide beach walks, complimented with bird walks, lighthouse tours, storytelling, and educational talks focused on the geology and native vegetation of our marine shorelines and the importance of keeping Puget Sound waters clean.
Dozens of volunteers assisted throughout the day to make the event a huge success. A small group of volunteers working the registration table and
enlisted participants to make personal pledges to be a Sound Citizen. What does it take to become a Citizen of the Sound, a Puget Sound Citizen?
Highlights included the grand welcoming of the Blue Heron Native Paddlers, who crossed Puget Sound from Des Moines to encounter the huge crowd on the beach singing, drumming, and cheering their arrival. The day ended with a guided exploration of the beach critters at low tide, led by a team of skilled Beach Naturalists.
